πŸ“– About the PM POSHAN MDM Calculator

The PM POSHAN MDM Calculator is a free, mobile-friendly tool built to help school teachers, Headmasters, MDM In-charges and CRCCs work out the exact daily requirement of a Mid Day Meal under the PM POSHAN (Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman) scheme. Instead of opening a register and doing the arithmetic by hand every morning, you simply enter the number of students present in each category and the tool instantly returns the cooking cost, the quantity of every ingredient, and a clean class-wise breakdown that you can export.

PM POSHAN (formerly the Mid Day Meal Scheme) is one of the largest school-feeding programmes in the world. Under the scheme, every eligible child from Balvatika up to Class VIIIβ€”and in many states up to Class Xβ€”is entitled to a hot cooked meal on every school day. Because the per-child cooking cost and the quantity of rice, dal, vegetables, oil and condiments are fixed by official norms, even a small counting mistake can cause a mismatch between stock consumed and stock reported. This calculator removes that risk by applying the correct rate for the date you choose and following the day-wise menu automatically.

Everything runs inside your browser. No login is required, your numbers are never sent to a server, and the tool works smoothly on a low-cost Android phone, a tablet, or a desktop. It is designed first for the people who actually use it every day in schools across Odisha and the rest of India.

🧭 How to Use the Calculator

The calculator is built to be finished in under a minute. Follow these five steps:

  1. Pick the date. Tap the date field and choose the day you are cooking for. The tool reads the weekday and shows that day's menu, including whether a nutrition-rich laddoo is served.
  2. Enter present students. Use the plus and minus steppers (or type directly) to set how many children were present in Balvatika, Primary, Upper Primary and High School. Only count children who actually ate.
  3. Generate the report. Tap Generate Report. The tool produces a class-wise table for each category showing the quantity and cost of every ingredient.
  4. Review the totals. Scroll to the summary to see the grand total cooking cost, the average cost per student, and the total rice required for the day.
  5. Export or record. Use the PDF or Excel export buttons to save a clean copy for your MDM register, monthly report, or SMS entry.

Because the rates and menu are already built in, you do not need to remember any figures. If you select an older date, the tool automatically applies the rate that was valid in that period, which is useful when you are filling backdated records.

πŸ’° Understanding Cooking Cost & Quantity Norms

Under PM POSHAN, the meal cost is split into two parts: the food grain (rice, supplied free through the Public Distribution System) and the cooking cost, which covers dal, vegetables, oil, condiments, salt and fuel. The cooking cost is fixed per child and is revised by the government from time to time to keep pace with market prices.

Per-child quantity (food grain)

Cooking cost components

The daily cooking cost is calculated by multiplying the present students by the per-child rate, then split across pulses, vegetables, oil and fat, salt and condiments, and fuel as per the prescribed proportions. From May 2025 the tool also balances the vegetable component so that the per-student total exactly matches the statutory figure, ensuring your report agrees with the official norm to the paisa.

A nutritious laddoo is served on selected days as an additional supplement. The calculator detects laddoo days automatically based on the date and weekday so you never have to track the policy manually.
